Ways to Help the Victims of Typhoon Sendong

Here are some ways to help our brothers and sisters affected by the calamity (Typhoon Sendong)

There are currently 19,865 persons in 11 evacuation centers in Iligan City. Cagayan De Oro, which has been placed under a state of calamity, experienced 180 mm of rainfall in less than 24 hours, which has led to massive floods in 23 of its 80 barangays, leaving 17,145 residents in 10 evacuation centers. Prior to the onslaught of Sendong in Zamboanga del Norte, about 143 persons had already evacuated their houses which were destructed by flash floods that swept the municipality of Polanco as well as Dipolog and Dapitan cities. Dapitan River had overflown early Saturday morning which flooded several barangays in Dapitan. There are currently 970 persons in 5 evacuation centers in Zamboanga del Norte.

PAGASA: Chedeng to enhance the southwest monsoon, will bring rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao including Metro Manila.

As of 10:00 AM today (Friday, 27 May 2011), the center of TY “” was located 210 km E of Aparri, Cagayan (18.4°N,123.8°E).

Typhoon "Chedeng" continues to gain speed and strength but weather forecasters say it may just spare the Philippines. "Chedeng", which has been called a supertyphoon has changed its direction and is now heading towards Okinawa, Japan.

As of 1:38pm Wednesday, 25 May 2011:

signal No. 2 over the Bicol region and the entire island of Samar on Wednesday as Tropical Storm “Chedeng” intensified into a full-blown typhoon with gusts of up to 160 kilometers per hour.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said it has raised Signal No. 2 over Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte as well as over the three Samar provinces. Signal No. 1 has been raised over Marinduque, Masbate, Burias, Ticao Islands, southern Quezon, Polilio Island, Northern Leyte and Biliran.

Tropical Storm Chedeng has intensified into a typhoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Wednesday.

Chedeng, however, is moving slowly and was described as “almost stationary.”

It has maximum sustained winds if 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph. It is expected to be 170 km east northeast of Catarman, Northern Samar by Thursday morning.
